How to give ENGLISH presentation
As I said before , I love to watch " Dragon's Den " , and , that is very similar to " Tora No Mon " in Japan . Do you remember that ?
I watched it yesterday , and , fortunately , there is some part of the program in Youtube , and , that is the most interesting one in yesterday's program .

First of all , I think you might feel this program is very difficult to understand if you watch this . This is only my opinion , but , it requires AT LEAST 950 score in TOEIC if you wanna understan d over 50 % of the program .( although TOEIC itself sucks ) . CNN itself is not easy to understand , right ? , and , this is way harder than CNN . As a matter of fact , my understanding of this program is only around 50 ~ 60% . They speak English not so fast and they speak really good English . Even Asian presenter can speak English in very good way and without any accent , but the topic itself is a bit difficuit , right ? There is a high possibility that they used a lot of words you are not familiar with .
Even if you cannot understand the content , like less than 30% , you could feel " something " . The presentors wear the same cloths , eh ? Their shirts and ties are the same design , and , that make the good impression to the millionares ( they are incredibly rich )
I wanna comment on the contents itself briefly . First of all , the business of presentor is some kind of internet service , and , they need 200,000 dollars . And , they have succeeded getting the money , right ? 4 millionares finance them 50,ooo dollars for each , and that makes 200,000. Their interest rate is 12.5 % ( How do you feel about this rate . High ? or Low ? )
The interesting point is that the millionares required the presentors to give 50 % of their business . And , the presentor receded to other place , and discussed the situation , and , finally , they accepted it . The deal was done , right ?
We can learn a lot of things from this . I don't have enough time to write down everything , so I wanna point out the couple of things .
Firstly , the presentors suceeded making a good impression of them . This is really important . What the presentors have to do is NOT to make the millionares understand how wonderful their business is , BUT to make the millionares want to invest in that business , right ?
Most of the presentors in this program already have known this important fact , and , well- prepare to make a good impression , but some of them don't do . They have a really strong confidence to their own business , so they incline to strenghen their business too much , and they usually say something that they don't have to say .
This kind of mistakes is really serious , and we have to be cautious about it . Let's give you one example .
If you go to the job interview , you have to sell yourself to the company , right ? And that means you have to give the presentation about yourself to them . The thing is what you have to do at that time is NOT to say how great you are , BUT to make the company want to hire you , right ?
So all you have to do is make them wanna hire you , right ? If the company require some of your specific skill , you have to say that part a lot , but if the company doesn't have any feeling about some of your abilities , you don't have to say it .
And , I think a lot of people trying to find the job do this kind of mitakes a lot . The mattor of fact is I already did this kind of mistake a lot 2 years ago ( I hope I won't make the mistake in next year ) .
Let's say , I'm majoring Economics and Finance . What I have right now is a bit of knowledge of Economics and Finance , and , to speak English a little bit . But I've spent a ton of time to get the skill , especially , English . Right now , I spend at least 12 hours to improve my English , listening , reading , speaking , writing . Whenever I do something , I have to use English right now . Today I got my hair cut , but even at that time , I learned English . I spoke the hair dressor for about an hour , and , picked up the words related to hair dressors.
Anyway , I spend so many time about such a kind of things , so because of this , there is high possibility I will insist the skills too much when I go to job-seeking . But there is high possiblity that the companies I will apply for don't require my skills , right ? I won't apply for any companies that don't require high English skill , but , I will apply for the companies that don't require any knowledge about Economics , Finance , and so on ( Actually , ALMOST ALL companies don't require such a kind of knowledge )
Right now , I can solve the dynamic macro economics model , and , have already finished advanced macro economics in a good mark in Hitotsubashi . But who cares ? Nobady cares, right ? I think my statistics skill and econometrics skill is not bad . I can compute a lot of things , using Linear Algebra , but the thing is "who cares " , right ? If you go to some company and input the number in the computer , the computer difinetely will solve it instead of you . All you have to do is to use the computer and ask the compular ,
" Please solve the problem instead of me !"
Considering this , what you have to do is you have to reseach the companies you wanna enter , and get the information about what the companies require the applicants . You have to do a lot of things to check your abilities are suit for the companies or not , and , you have to spend a ton of time to get the information . For instance , you have to meet the employees to get the lively imformation . You have to understand yourself , that means , sometimes , people doesn't know what kind of skill they have , or , what kind of person they are . Before applying for the companies , you have to consider seriously whether you can do what you wanna do in the company .
This kind of process is really, really important , but , people sometime miss it . I also missed it two years ago , right ?
